Reconsidered Goods Monthly Newsletter July 2018

Well hello and welcome to our first monthly newsletter post. We are approaching our second year of being opened for business at our Patterson Street home and wanted to keep our customers, donors and fans up to date on what is happening in the world of creative reuse at Reconsidered Goods.

Just a little history, for those that are new to us:
Reconsidered Goods was established in January 2016. We received a Spark Grant from Action Greensboro to launch a Pop-Up shop in downtown Greensboro. This grant helped us to show just what fun creative reuse could be to our city. Martha, Paige and Joesph started planning our business and gathered together with some other environmental enthusiast to form our board of directors. After finding the perfect location, we opened our doors in September 2016. And here we are today!

We began weighing our donation intake in the beginning of 2018. YTD, we have diverted 58,442 pounds of items to reuse instead of to the landfill. Thanks for all of our great donors, our local waste stream is a little less full!

In other exciting news, we have hired Laura Maruzzella to be our Education Director. Laura graduated from the Art + Design program at NC State and went on to study at The School of The Art Institute of Chicago, receiving her Masters in Art Therapy in 2013. She has big exciting plans to spread creative reuse throughout the community. Every Thursday at 9 AM, she hosts a free story time and STEAM craft activity open to the public.

This month we want to shine a light on our employee Tammy Stockmann.

If you've shopped with us, chances are Tammy helped you find that perfect item for your project. She has been with us from the beginning and is a huge part of our success. She keeps us tidy and on track and we couldn't do it without her.

We have also added a monthly event called "Craft and Draft".

This is a great time to meet up with friends at a local brewery and have some fun crafting. The location and crafts change monthly. For a $5 donation, you can join in the crafting fun. Find out more about our next event on our facebook page or our calendar on our website. This month, we will be making leather keychains at Horrigan's House of Taps downtown. Stop by July 17th from 6-8!

Another exciting event that we have added is our monthly teacher discount day.
Every second Wednesday we celebrate our teachers by offering a 10% off discount with a school ID. (homeschoolers can provide verification records). July's teacher appreciation day is Wednesday 7/11.

Thanks to all of you that follow us, donate to us, and shop with us. Reconsidered Goods is successful because you our community that supports us.
