Reconsidered Goods July newsletter

July has arrived and is well on its way. Thanks to all of the customers enduring the heat with us and shopping through the summer months. In June we receive and diverted from the landfill 7.9 tons of materials.



Here are the many exciting events happening this month:





Join us on the third Tuesday of the month at Horigan’s House of Taps between 6-8 p.m. to make a simple upcycled craft. On Tuesday July 16 we will be making felt food keychains. Materials and instructions will be provided. It’s only a $5 donation for a great time and you’ll leave with something awesome!

Reconsidered Goods is bringing creative reuse to the Greensboro beer scene with monthly Craft & Draft meetups. RG serves our community by taking donated materials from manufacturers and individuals and diverting them from the landfill and into the hands of artists, makers and teachers to create something new.

Join us on the third Thursday of the month this fall for Full Steam Ahead Storytime Book Club at Reconsidered Goods! Children from ages birth to 5, along with their caretakers, are invited for STEAM powered fun focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. Children of all abilities are welcome to this fun-filled learning experience.

July 18 | In the Tall, Tall Grass by Denise Fleming | Wildflower Seed Bombs: Explore the how plants grow from a seed by crafting up some wildflower seed bombs for your garden! We will be recycling scrap paper into colorful pulp to sculpt seed bombs to toss into your yard or flower pot. Create a unique design by mixing different colors of pulp together, or use a cookie cutter to give your seed bomb a one-of-a-kind look

Looking ahead to August



**Starting in August, we are moving our Craft & Draft night to the first Friday of each month.**

Materials and instructions will be provided. It’s only a $5 donation for a great time and you’ll leave with something awesome!

Add some creative reuse fun to your summer with camp at Reconsidered Goods! Designed for young artists and makers ages 8-12, our half- day weeklong art camps deliver different themes all with a focus on reuse, recycling and environmentalism. Each day campers will explore art materials, build new skills and make new friends through hands-on creative projects, interactive games, and fun camp adventures!


MIXED MEDIA MASTERS | August 5-9

An adventure in sculpture for the artist who wants to try a little bit of everything! Campers will create, build and sculpt using a variety of different mediums to explore the basics of 3D art. Sculptures big and small, both individually and collaboratively, will be crafted throughout the week. Campers will work with polymer clay, wire, wood, cardboard, bottle caps and all kinds of unique reuse materials. Campers will create a portfolio of mixed media works to keep at the end of the week.

TIME | 9:00 AM-1:00PM

PRICE | $125 per camper. Materials included, snack provided and campers bring lunch. Please provide a snack if your child has food restrictions.

Make-It Days
Join us for our Make-It Days in August, Wednesday 8/7 and Sunday 8/11.




We will be altering donated art into new and improved masterpieces!

Drop in during our regular open hours on either day. Activities are kid and adult friendly! We give you the supplies, directions and show you some examples to get your creative juices flowing. Cost is $8 per maker- bring drinks and food if you wish (alcohol is allowed)! Allow yourself at least 1 hour (or more!) to get your craft on.

Reconsidered Goods and UNCG’s Healthy Relationships Initiative are partnering together this summer for Love Yourself, Express Yourself, a workshop series designed for teenage girls who want to learn more about strengthening healthy relationships.

Do you enjoy crafting and getting to know other people your age? Are you looking for something fun to do with your girlfriends? Join us at Reconsidered Goods for monthly art activities focused on fostering self-care practices, self-expression through the arts, strengthening leadership skills and setting effective goals. Workshops are $10 each with all materials provided. All workshops are for participants ages 13-19 and take place at Reconsidered Goods. Love Yourself, Express Yourself | Collage Vision Boards | August 14 | 5:00-7:30 PM:

We will be creating collage vision boards that can help participants identify and name their long term and short term goals, as well as providing them a fun, creative reminder of what those goals are. Our discussion will focus on the themes of goal setting, time management and boundaries in terms of healthy relationships with others and ourselves.

August 15 | Gregory, the Terrible Eater by Mitchell Sharmat | Clay Food Creations: Cook up something yummy in the creative reuse kitchen! We will be using polymer clay and reuse materials like bottle caps, yarn, cardboard and wood to craft our favorite (and least favorite) foods. We will be mixing, stirring and mashing together recipes of all kinds as we sculpt our creative and colorful meals.

Beginners Sewing Class | Sewing Basics for Adults



Learn the basics of sewing with RG staff and fabric queen Susan Mayer. In this class you will be provided with the materials and instruction to sew your own pocketed tote bag. Participants will learn basic machine operation, sewing terminology and the steps to embellishing their bag with a variety of techniques. Reserve your spot by signing up through Event Brite.

August Kids Sewing Class | Donut Pillows | 9-17 Years Old



Learn the basics of sewing with RG staff Laura Maruzzella. In this class you will be provided with the materials and instruction to sew your own donut pillow. Participants will learn basic sewing techniques including hand sewing and machine operation as well as sewing terminology. This class is for participants 9-17 years old.
